How CiteCount handles data, cookies, and analytics
At CiteCount, your documents stay on your device. All word-count computation (including citation exclusion) runs locally in your browser; we do not collect or store your text or citations on our servers. If you contact us, we collect the information you submit and limited technical data to respond and troubleshoot.
1. Information We Collect
On-Device Content
Text you input for counting is processed entirely in the browser and never sent to our servers.
Analytics and Diagnostics
We use analytics to understand usage and performance, including Google Analytics, LiteAnalytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics, and internal event logs. These data points may include page views, referrer, device and browser type, operating system, approximate location (city/region/country), timestamps, and an anonymous local user ID. We do not tie this data to your document content.
Advertising Data
In the future, we may use Google AdSense to display ads. Ad services may use cookies or similar identifiers to deliver, measure, and personalize ads. Ad personalization depends on your consent and account or browser settings.
Contact and Support Requests
If you submit the contact form, we collect the message content and any email you provide. To help us respond and troubleshoot, we also collect limited technical details (such as device/browser info, aspect ratio, and a small snapshot of settings configuration) and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
Local Storage
Your preferences (for example, theme), AutoSave content, projects, citations, notepad content, and consent choices are stored locally in your browser. This data remains on your device unless you export it or include it in a support request.
2. How We Use Analytics Data
- Provide and operate the site and its features.
- Monitor and improve performance and reliability.
- Understand navigation patterns to enhance usability.
- Measure adoption of new features and content.
- Serve and measure advertising where enabled.
- Respond to support requests and improve user experience.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell or trade personal data. We share limited data with trusted service providers to operate and improve the site:
- Google Analytics and LiteAnalytics for usage analytics.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics for performance and reliability insights.
These providers process data under their own policies and only for the purposes described here.
4. Your Choices and Rights
- Control cookies in your browser or via our cookie settings (see the Cookies Policy).
- Opt out of analytics or advertising cookies using the cookie settings or browser controls.
- Clear local storage data in the app settings or by clearing your browser data.
- EU/EEA residents may exercise GDPR rights (access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability) for analytics data; contact us for requests.
5. Security
Because document processing stays on-device, your content is not transmitted to our servers. We use HTTPS to protect data in transit, and we rely on security controls provided by our service providers, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
Local storage data remains on your device until you clear it. Contact submissions and analytics data are retained only as long as needed for support, security, and service improvement, subject to our providers' retention policies and legal requirements.
7. International Transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside your country. We use providers that offer appropriate safeguards for international data transfers where required.
8. Children's Privacy
CiteCount is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. We will post the updated date at the top of this page. Continued use after changes signifies acceptance.
