๐Ÿš€ Getting Started with File Management

Accessing the File Manager

  1. Click "Docs" Button: Find the "Docs" or "๐Ÿ“" button in the top navigation bar
  2. File Manager Opens: A panel or overlay displays your projects and folders
  3. View Your Files: See all your saved work organized in one place

Creating a New Project

  1. Open File Manager: Click the "Docs" button
  2. Click "New Project": Find the button at the top of the File Manager
  3. Name Your Project: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Biology IA - Photosynthesis")
  4. Add Description (Optional): Add notes about the assignment
  5. Choose Folder (Optional): Select a folder to organize the project
  6. Start Writing: The editor opens with your new blank project

Saving Your Current Work as a Project

If you have text in the editor that isn't saved as a project yet:

  1. Click "Save as Project" or press Cmd/Ctrl + S
  2. Enter a project name
  3. Choose a folder (optional)
  4. Click "Save"
โœจ AutoSave Tip: With AutoSave enabled, your changes are automatically saved to the current project. No need to manually save after every edit!

Opening an Existing Project

  1. Open File Manager: Click "Docs"
  2. Find Your Project: Browse folders or use search
  3. Click to Open: Click the project name
  4. Start Editing: Your document loads in the editor

Renaming a Project

  1. Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the project
  2. Select "Rename"
  3. Enter the new name
  4. Press Enter or click "Save"

Duplicating a Project

Use Case: Create multiple drafts or versions of your work

  1. Right-click the project
  2. Select "Duplicate"
  3. A copy is created with "(Copy)" appended to the name
  4. Rename the copy to something like "Extended Essay - Draft 2"

Deleting a Project

  1. Right-click the project
  2. Select "Delete"
  3. Confirm deletion in the popup
  4. Project is permanently removed
โš ๏ธ Warning: Deleted projects cannot be recovered. Make sure you have a backup before deleting important work!

Creating a New Folder

  1. Open File Manager: Click "Docs"
  2. Click "New Folder": Find the button in the File Manager
  3. Name Your Folder: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "IB Internal Assessments")
  4. Choose Parent Folder (Optional): Create nested folders for deeper organization
  5. Create: Your new folder appears in the list

Moving Projects into Folders

Method 1: Drag and Drop

  1. Click and hold on a project
  2. Drag it over the target folder
  3. Release to drop it into the folder

Method 2: Right-Click Menu

  1. Right-click the project
  2. Select "Move to..."
  3. Choose the destination folder
  4. Click "Move"

Process:

  1. Create project: "Extended Essay - Draft 1"
  2. Write and save regularly
  3. When ready for next version, duplicate project
  4. Rename to "Extended Essay - Draft 2"
  5. Make revisions in Draft 2
  6. Keep both drafts for reference

How to Import

  1. Click "Import" in File Manager
  2. Choose file from your computer
  3. CiteCount creates a new project
  4. Name the project and choose folder
  5. Start editing
โš ๏ธ Backup Recommendation: Regularly save important projects to your computer or another storage location. Since CiteCount stores data locally in your browser, clearing browser data will delete your projects!

  2. Cloud Backup: Save backups to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.
  3. Multiple Locations: Keep backups in 2-3 places
  4. Before Major Edits: Duplicate project or save a backup before big changes

Problem: Projects Not Appearing

Possible Causes:

  1. Check if you're using the same browser and profile
  2. Check if projects were accidentally deleted
  3. Import backed-up .ccproj files if available

Problem: Can't Create New Project

Possible Causes:

Solutions:

  1. Check Settings โ†’ Storage for usage
  2. Delete old projects to free space
  3. Clear autosave history
  4. Enable browser storage in browser settings

Problem: Slow File Manager

Possible Causes:

  1. Archive or delete old projects
  2. Use folders to organize better
  3. Save and delete very large projects
