๐ฏ Organize Your Academic Work
Keep all your assignments, essays, and projects organized with CiteCount's file management system. Create projects for individual documents, organize them into folders by subject or semester, and never lose track of your work again.
๐ Understanding Projects & Folders
What Are Projects?
A Project is a single document or assignment in CiteCount. Each project contains:
Document Text: Your actual writing content
Metadata: Name, description, creation date
Statistics: Word count, character count, citations
History: Version tracking and autosave states
What Are Folders?
A Folder is a collection of related projects. Folders help you organize:
By Subject: Biology IA, History Essay, Math IA
By Semester: Fall 2024, Spring 2025
By Type: IB Work, University Applications, Personal Projects
โ ๏ธ Backup Recommendation: Regularly save important projects to your computer or another storage location. Since CiteCount stores data locally in your browser, clearing browser data will delete your projects!
๐๏ธ Data Storage & Management
Where Are Projects Stored?
CiteCount stores all projects locally in your browser's localStorage/IndexedDB:
Advantages
โ Privacy: Your documents never leave your device
โ Speed: Instant loading and saving
โ No Account Required: Use CiteCount immediately
โ Works Offline: Access projects without internet
Limitations
โ Device-Specific: Projects only available on this browser/device
โ No Cloud Sync: Can't access from other devices
โ Clearing Data Deletes Projects: Browser data clear removes everything
โ Storage Limits: Typically 5-10MB per domain (varies by browser)
Storage Quota Management
Check how much storage you're using:
Go to Settings โ Storage
View "Used Storage" and "Available Storage"
See breakdown by projects and folders
Clearing Old Data
Free up storage space:
Delete Old Projects: Remove completed or unnecessary projects
Clear History: Delete autosave history (Settings โ Storage)
Save & Delete: Save important projects to your computer then delete from CiteCount
Archive Folders: Create archive folder for old work
๐พ Storage Best Practice: Keep only current/active projects in CiteCount. Save and delete completed work to maintain performance and avoid storage issues.
โจ Tips & Best Practices
Naming Conventions
Use clear, consistent names for easy organization:
Include Subject: "Biology IA - Photosynthesis"
Include Version: "Extended Essay - Draft 3"
Include Date: "TOK Essay - Dec 2024"
Be Descriptive: "IB Math IA - Calculus Analysis" vs "Math Paper"
Folder Organization
Start Broad: Create main categories first (IB, University, Personal)
Go Specific: Create subfolders as needed
Don't Over-Organize: Too many folders can be confusing
Use Archives: Create "Archive" or "Completed" folders for old work
Version Control
Number Your Drafts: Draft 1, Draft 2, Final
Date Your Versions: "Extended Essay - 2024-12-01"
Keep Major Versions: Don't save every tiny change
Delete Old Drafts: Remove outdated versions after assignment submission
Backup Strategy
Weekly Backups: Save important projects to your computer weekly
Cloud Backup: Save backups to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.
Multiple Locations: Keep backups in 2-3 places
Before Major Edits: Duplicate project or save a backup before big changes
๐ฏ Pro Workflow
Create folder structure โ Start new project โ Enable AutoSave โ Write draft โ Duplicate for next version โ Save when complete โ Archive old versions
