Terms of Service
Your agreement with CiteCount
Welcome to CiteCount (“the Service”), a web application available at citecount.com. By accessing or using CiteCount, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Use of the Service
CiteCount is a tool designed to help users count words in text while excluding citations, with all processing occurring on your device. You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
2. International Baccalaureate Disclaimer
“International Baccalaureate” and “IB” are registered trademarks owned by the International Baccalaureate Organization. CiteCount has been developed independently from and is not endorsed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Any references to IB-related terms are for informational purposes only and do not imply affiliation or approval.
3. Service Provided “As Is”
We have made every effort to ensure that CiteCount and its companion tools (including but not limited to the citation generator, exam timer, exam countdowns, grade calculator, downloadable applications, premium/Pro features, blogs, and related tooling and content) accurately perform their stated functions. However, all parts of the Service are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We are not liable for any errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or unexpected behaviour in any feature, tool, or output provided by CiteCount or its companion services. Use of the Service and any related tools is at your own risk.
4. Intellectual Property
CiteCount and its original content, design, and functionality are the intellectual property of CiteCount, protected under applicable copyright laws. No part of the Service—including its code, interface, or documentation—may be copied, reproduced, distributed, or used for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without our prior written permission. While the source code is publicly visible for transparency, this does not grant permission to copy or adapt the Service for other purposes.
5. User Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use CiteCount lawfully and in compliance with these Terms.
- Not modify, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract proprietary elements of the Service beyond its open-source availability.
- Not use the Service to process content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes on others' rights.
We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the Service at our discretion if these Terms are violated.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CiteCount and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to data loss, errors in word counts, or reliance on the Service's output. Our total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service (which is zero, as it is free).
7. Aggregation of External Websites
We may provide services that aggregate content from various external websites for the convenience of our users. While we strive to enhance your experience through such aggregation, CiteCount is not responsible for any events, actions, or consequences that occur on or arise from these external sites. Furthermore, we bear no liability for the legality, accuracy, or appropriateness of content hosted on these external pages, as such content is beyond our control and jurisdiction.
For more information about content curation and our correspondence with external content providers, see IB resources: correspondence for additional detail.
8. Affiliate Links & Cookies
Some pages and external links on CiteCount may be affiliate links through which we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase. We disclose affiliate relationships where applicable and do not allow affiliate status to influence editorial content. If you prefer not to participate in analytics or cookie tracking that may be used in conjunction with affiliate programs, you can opt out or control cookies via our Cookies Policy.
9. Third-Party Services
CiteCount uses third-party services (for example, Google Analytics and LiteAnalytics) for anonymized usage tracking, as detailed in our Privacy Policy. Some external services (such as the embedded calculators in exam timers) are operated by third parties and governed by their own terms and policies; please review those providers' policies before engaging. We are not responsible for third-party practices, and any payment, refund, or transaction disputes must be addressed with the relevant provider.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated “Effective Date.” Your continued use of CiteCount after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
